:- What is a GSM Model?

The GSM or Global System for Mobiles is one of the models which is popular in the mobile networks. And now let's discuss some of the principles of the GSM model:

GSM Network Elements:

Mobile Station (MS): The communicating/end user equipment (cellphone, etc.)

Base Transceiver Station (BTS): Is a Cell Site that the MS directly engages in.

Base Transceiver Controller (BSC): Internally contains communication with several BTSs and carries out control tasks

Mobile Traffic Switching Center (MSC): Interconnections between calls and providing mobile services

Home Location Register (HLR): Is used to store billing information and records concerning the subscriber

Visitor Location Register (VLR): Statistic information of roaming subscribers is provided temporarily.

GSM Network Types:

GSM-900: The very first GSM band (900 Mhz).

GSM-1800: expanded GSM frequency band (1800 Mhz).

GSM-1900: The American Region GSM frequency band (1900 Mhz).

GSM Network Basic Features:

Voice Calls: The traditional method of sending and receiving communication in syllables.

SMS (Short Message Service): Sending short written messages to phones.

GPRS (General packet radio service): Sending and receiving emails, web browsing, etc.

EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution): an improved data rate.

Over the years the technology has evolved and incorporated advancements like the above-mentioned GSM-EDGE and the current version being GSM-HSPA. Nowadays, however, it is more and more used because of newer technologies such as LG and 5th generation networks.
